Update

Dear faithful followers,

Thank you SO much to all the wonderful people following the blog. I have had an amazing time keeping track of all the memories during season. Unfortunately, with the start of school, the amount of free time available to post has rapidly declined. Instead of posting daily updates, I will do my best to post when we are on road trips or if a momentous occasion has occurred. Thanks for all of your support throughout preseason and continuing forth.

Sincerely,

Stanny Field Hockey

First Day of School!

Sorry I haven’t had the chance to update in a while! We’ve just been busy with practice and preparing for the arrival of a brand new quarter! Before I mention the school day, I can’t forget to talk about our WIN! We beat UC Davis on Sunday on a different surface than we are used to. Instead of the ‘carpet-like’ turf, we played on field turf. The ball tends to get stuck in the field, but it was no match for us. Q scored 3 goals! Wahoo!!  Everyone from the team made a great contribution to the game!

Today was the first day of school for the freshmen! They are finally getting their feet wet in the academic part of school. They even chose to get all dressed up for class today!

Tomorrow we’re back to practice in preparation for Pacific and Berkeley this weekend!

#14 IN THE NATION.

For the time being we are ranked #14 in the nation. It is a truly incredible experience to be part of a team that is ranked so highly. More than ever we must work hard to prove that we deserve to be in this position! Tomorrow begins our last double day!

California Here We Come

Finally HOME! YAY! After a LONG day of travel, think 4 hour bus ride, 5 hour plane flight, 30 minutes back to campus, we made it safe and sound to Stanny. This road trip was a huge success, we are 6-0 and it feels great to be undefeated. Here are some pictures from our time spent in Iowa.

Team gathering after Iowa Win!

Team gathering after Iowa Win!

We have tomorrow off and many of us will be busy organizing our rooms and preparing for the new quarter!

We finally made it to Iowa! After a long bus ride, a couple of movies, and many crossword puzzles, we arrived in our hotel. We are located right in the heart of the University of Iowa downtown area. Students have to walk through our hotel to get to classes. Today is football game day so there is a lot of hussle and bussle. This is a very short post because we don’t have internet here at the hotel and I’m connected to a shaky outside connection, but expect pictures and news about the VCU game later! Both of our games for the next two days will be difficult battles, but we’re pumped up.

Northwestern!

Today was a great day of field hockey and time spent with friends. Our game against Northwestern went well. Although we still have things to fix in our game, we pulled away with a 3-1 win. It was sure hot out on the field, but we worked through it. We had a lot of great fans (shoutout Bart and parents!) cheering us on the entire time!

After our game we were lucky enough to be hosted by a wonderful alumnus for a tasty dinner and warm hospitality. It was a great time to spend time with friends and family.

After we ate to our heart’s content, we headed back to the hotel room for some television and shut eye. We even played pass the baby for a few minutes… Much love to Cooper.

A long day of travel…

We finally made it to our hotel in Chicago! After a long day of traveling and trying to get to our destination, we landed safely. Of course after our flight was delayed and the original arrival time of 5pm went out the window, we made it at 6:30pm. Everyone was famished so we headed to dinner at a place called The Lucky Platter. The decor was quite unique and the food was great. Tomorrow we play Northwestern at 3pm! Should be an excellent game…

ROAD TRIP!

Tomorrow morning we depart for our road trip to play Northwestern, VCU, and Iowa! Today we are busy moving out of our rooms in Otero and moving to our permanent school year housing.
Packing the rooms :(

Packing the rooms 😦

I am always sad on this day because it means that we won’t be seeing each other in the halls or tie-dying in the lounge. Pre-season is such a unique time and even as physically tough as it is, I must admit I’m going to miss it.

We have practice today and then we leave! I will be posting as many pictures as I can from the Road Trip!

One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.

P.S. HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY JAIMEE!! The zebra spandex are superb.

Weekend Update!

Seeing as many of the parents are visiting this weekend, we’ve been surrounded with love and hugs from many families! This weekend has featured some excellent playing and fun travels.

Friday Night Lights – We opened our first night game in the history of Stanford Field Hockey. YAY! It was a hard fought game, but we came out feisty and won 1-0! It was definitely an intense and focused game.

Saturday Bart Travels – An important aspect of being a college player is checking out your opponents. We took a trip to Berkeley to watch Kent State play. It looks like Kent State will be another tough game, certainly not a team to underestimate. We made good use of public transit and rode the Bart Train.

Bits and Bobs – Ale and Xanny made an excellent fort and I wanted to make sure it was featured on the blog!

We’ve got a game on Sunday, should be a good one!

Get Out Squirrel!!

I wish I could post a video of the event that occurred today. As we were getting ready for our morning practice in the locker room, a little black squirrel seemed to be hanging out right outside the room. We weren’t too concerned at first, but then the little creature scampered right into our locker room. First he zoomed into the bathroom and Donny yelled, “There’s a bird in the bathroom”. But this was no bird. The squirrel ran across the entire room, vaulted across Q’s leg and onto the top of the lockers. He proceeded to jump on Jaimee’s head and then across the lockers. Midori, as a kind animal lover, tried to convince everyone that he could be shooed out. She walked close to him and then yelped and ran back to her corner. The little guy finally ran out of the locker room, but not before Bushy ran screaming out the front door. It was quite the entertainment!
